
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and singer who toured for more than 40 years. London was a torch singer well-known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her performance of "Cry Me a River" which she introduced to her debut album. In addition to her musical notice, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her performance as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. with film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in many westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) as well as together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). The singer signed a recording contract with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional musical career. The final album of her studio was released in 1969. She continued to enjoy success in the role of the female main character of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) She was with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
